It's Self-Improvement Month! What are YOU Doing??

Saturday, September 29, 2012

I've always been into fitness.  Whether  it is running, going to the gym or eating healthy - it is always on my mind.
However, working full time AND juggling motherhood has put a huge strain on my fitness plan.  Some nights I'm too tired to get in that run or it's really so much easier to run through the drive thru for dinner.  But the unhealthy habits were too much - I had to put an end to it before it became a habit.
Since September is Self-Improvement Month, I took this opportunity to create some personal goals and establish a realistic workout plan that I knew I could withhold based on my own lifestyle.

First, I decided I had to add more "colors' in our daily meals.  I stocked up on all kinds of fruits and vegetables and made it a priority to have at least one fruit and one vegetable on everyone's plate at dinner.  Even if it's something like pizza - I will buy Veggie Pizza or just take once slice and fill the rest of my plate up with a nice hearty salad.  You don't have to deprive yourself of your favorite foods, just make sure you can balance out your meals with some healthy colors.  Maybe my son or husband won't eat it, but it is my first step in familiarizing my family with this new habit.
(Shhh. Don't tell my son though, but I think it's working because he ate ALL of his cucumbers the other night BEFORE his macaroni and cheese! )

I have a two year old, so the gym during the week isn't a choice if I want to spend time with him in the evenings.  I promised myself I would workout at least four times a week, but in ways that I could do with my son or when he went to bed.  One of the easiest solutions has been to get out that jogging stroller and go for a run.  I have even become a pro running with the stroller AND the dog - now that's true talent.  But it has been a really nice bonding time with my son as we run through nature during these fall evenings.  Plus, after I put him to bed, I can relax with a book or catch-up on my Real Housewives on DVR because my workout is already done.  I also love to do home workout videos that incorporate strength training, toning and cardio because these can be done in the privacy of my own home and while my little monkey is up in bed sleeping.  Many of these workouts are around thirty minutes and depending on the instructor, you sweat your booty off!  But even on the nights when I think I'm too tired, I'll go for a long walk with the family and my pull my son in the wagon for extra resistance.  It's the little things that you don't think about that really count!

This has been my most challenging goal even though it should be the easiest!  My problem has been that I find things to do and keep myself up way longer than I should be up - especially with a new start time of 7:20 A.M. this school year!  But I have made it a priority to be in bed by 10 every night - computer off and phone away.  The nights that I give myself a break from my workouts, I'll even jump into bed as soon as my son is down and relax usually falling asleep way before 10!   But I find that not only do I have more energy, but my patience and tolerance is a lot higher, making me a better overall person.

Sometimes, no matter how hard we try, those problem areas (you know - muffin tops or little belly pudge) will not go away. Another option you can add to self-improvement plan to target those areas is the break through procedure called  CoolSculpting.  It's a non-invasive procedure that gently and effectively removes fat by using cooling technology to eliminate those fat cells.  You know those problem areas we referred to earlier or the parts of your midsection that are never the same after having a baby?  CoolSculpting is the perfect solution for these trouble zones!  The procedure is FDA cleared and uses an applicator that targets and cools these areas, which gradually reduces the thickness of the fat layers.  CoolSculpting is so safe and quick that you're in and out within hours - or even over your lunch!  By adding CoolSculpting to your self-improvement plan, you will be able to meet your goals and see visible results within two months.
