Fitness Friday: If the Shoe Fits

Friday, January 4, 2013

Okay moms, I get it
Whether you have a full time job or spend your days as a full time SAHM, you are pooped by the end of the day.  The last thing on your mind is exercise.
One of my New Year's resolutions was to add healthier eating to coincide with my workout habits.
So I decided to create this weekly post to share tips to not only help you but help me stay focused on my fitness journey and motivated during the year.

Today's tip is simple:  It's all about the shoes.

That's right.
I'm telling you now that if you don't have a comfortable or durable pair of athletic shoes, you may go shoe shopping.

I recently upgraded to a new pair over the holidays because I was seriously WAY overdue.
When I was looking these were my guidelines:
1. Comfort
Do my feet feel good? Not too snug yet not too loose.  Decide what is comfortable for you and your workouts.  I like my shoes to fit tight rather than loose, but that's my preference.

2. Light as a Feather
This is important for me since I am a runner.  However, I do participate in aerobic activity and prefer light shoes, especially if I'm kicking or jumping.  Make sure your shoes don't weigh you down and that you can perform at your best level without feeling like your shoes are turning into rocks.

3.  Style
They've got to be appealing to me or I won't wear them.  Buy shoes that YOU like.  Let's face it - the cuter workout gear you own, the more motivation you will feel to want to get moving.

4. Durability
I don't care how foolish I look, I make a trek around the shoe area in the shoes I'm trying out to make sure my feet stay put and there is no rolling of the ankles or rubs from the back.  You want shoes that will endure and last through your activity - so make sure you test it out!

Once you find the right pair of shoes, I promise it really makes a difference.  So get your shopping on my friends!

Now it's time to go get your boo boo boo boogie shoes.
Because you workout. :)

Happy Fitness! :)
