Terrible TWOSday - My Little Bruiser

Tuesday, July 30, 2013

Yesterday was one of those days where you hope to never go through it again.

I'll start from the beginning...

We woke up to a seriously gorgeous day.  The sun was out but it was chilly.  I headed to a doctor's appointment while Cohen hung out with his favorite sitter, Maggie, in his choo choo undies.  When I came back we got dressed and then decided to play at the park.  After lunch we heard the neighbors outside so we got out our bubbles and chalk and played in our little dead end road.  One of the neighbors just learned how to ride her bike so she continued to ride up and down the road like she usually did.  Well, Cohen decided to chase her...

Here is where the story gets sad.

She turned around, was startled by the amount of kids surrounding her and ran smack into Cohen going pretty fast on her bike.  I mean SMACK into him.  Poor thing was bleeding and bruised and tangled into her bike.  I've never heard him cry so hard before - so I knew he was really hurt.  After we got in I saw the huge gash on his face. Okay, I'm the kind of mom that freaks out over any kind of blood or injury.  I usually panic and make Kurtis take over.  However it was just me and Soph so I had to do it this time.  I finally got the bleeding to stop enough so I could check out his mouth - which was also gushing blood.  It looked like his tooth went through his lip and his bottom gums were pretty scratched up.  By this time my little man had finally calmed down and was watching Chuggington and eating a  popsicle.  Soph played the big sister role and sat with him, holding the ice pack on his bruised little leg while I called his dentist.

And guess what his dentist said?
"We are almost done with patients for the day."

Umm hello?  Did you hear me?  My child got ran over by a bike and I think his tooth may be loose?
Oh yeah, he's only 2 and a half?

So I reluctantly made an appointment for the next morning and called my husband crying.
My next solution -- call our dentist.

So I did and guess what?
He's the bomb.com really and got him in after his nap.
He normally doesn't take patients that little but Cohen did awesome.  I think it helped because his wife is the hygienist and they have a son that is three, so they knew the tricks of the trade with our little guy.  And it all turned out okay too!  Just scratches to the gums but his teeth looked fine and his tooth didn't end up going through his lip like I first originally thought.
I will forever recommend my dentist to everyone and their brother because of his kindness.
 Seriously, need a dentist?

How is my little bruiser doing today you ask?
Well, here's his road rash the day after:

God his face is still stinking cute with that big ol' mess on his face.

Chances are it will be a decent scar if we aren't careful but I'm just thankful that it wasn't worse.  He acts completely fine and continues to participate in his daily adventures such as jumping off the couch, climbing onto the high bar stools and sliding down the slide head first.
My poor neighbor girl was so sad about the incident.  She is one of the most sweetest and sensitive souls I know. But we reassured her it was an accident and Cohen still loves her -- he even wanted to go back over and play the second we got back from the dentist.

As for our dentist appointment we had scheduled for today? I called this morning to make sure they got my message that it was cancelled.
They then asked, "Did you see our doctor on call?"

My response: "No.  I wasn't given that option so I called my family dentist and he got us right in last night."
BAM baby!

Don't mess with Mama Bear when it comes to her Baby Bear.

Happy TWOSday! :)

I had to hit up Target today for my little bruiser who got run over by the girl next door on her bike (more on that later!).  It was a complete accident and poor girl felt horrible but boy did my kid worry this mama!  So I had to grab some cream for his road rash on his face as well as a few other extra goodies before my July coupons expired!

Get Back to School Ready with Gordmans

Here is Indiana school is getting ready to start any day now for many students. I know - it is crazy early! But this year Back-To-School shopping is different than in the past for me. Cohen will be attending his first year of preschool so now I have double the fun things to make sure I purchase before he gets ready to venture into his school year. Plus Sophie will be entering her first year in junior high. (I know, I'm thinking it too "Oh no. Junior High!") With another little one on the way, I was on a mission to find a store that offered everything I was looking for as well as quality products with affordable prices. This past weekend after we helped my sister and brother in law move into their house, we were driving home and passed Gordmans. This store was huge - so I had to stop!

My husband, Sophie, Cohen and I headed in and were greeted by friendly associates willing to help us with any of our Back-to-School shopping needs. Gordmans was set up in easy to navigate sections so I knew exactly where to look for the things I needed. I made a beeline to the toddler boys section while my husband, Sophie and Cohen decided to check out the toys and shoes. As I shopped for Cohen, I noticed a little section between the children's clothing area with kid friendly videos and seating called "Gordmans Giggles." Soon Cohen had joined me and was loving his shopping time at Gordmans! It was the perfect spot to entertain the kiddos while you shopped in the area! But I was even more pleasantly surprised by the clothing selection and brand names for Cohen - familiar names like Carters and Puma. Plus the prices were amazing and ones that you really couldn't beat at any other store in the area. I had fun choosing a few outfits for Cohen and he loved being able to pick his favorite shirts too, even if every choice was the color orange but more importantly he was having fun and not getting into toddler trouble!

Sophie is now officially in the teen section yet her middle school has a stricter than usual dress code. So as I headed over there, I was greeted with an amazing selection for her as well! We found some great clothes and had a blast trying them on. I kept finding her more and more things to try on while she was in the dressing room. Sophie was starting to become more comfortable and excited about the idea of middle school while I was getting more excited with the prices we were finding. Double win for our Back to School shopping experience!

After a pit stop in the toys again for Cohen and a looksie for Kurtis in the men's section, my husband and I got sidetracked by the home goods department. Hey now, the parents need to enjoy their own Back to School shopping as well! We found a super cute porch swing and a great cabinet for our hallway at nearly half the price! I was amazed at the choices of wall art and other accent pieces of furniture and decor that Gordmans had to offer. The products were ones you would find a various name brand stores and the quality is what you would expect when shopping from those stores too. I can't wait to have my sister watch Cohen so Kurtis and I can go and find those final finishing touches we have been looking for to complete our new home.

At checkout I was introduced to Gordman's loyalty program. The gRewards program lets you earn a point for every dollar you spend. It's not a credit card but a simple rewards card! Once you earn 200 points you will get a $10 reward. Plus the program offers a variety of perks including a 10% birthday discount off of your entire purchase. Beginning August 15ht you'll be able to sign up online. But if you can't wait until then be sure to ask your associate when checking out to get signed up for the gRewards program!

Are you ready now to hit Gorman's for some hot Back to School shopping? Be sure to head to your Gordmans to score one of these awesome in store special events:
8/2 - 8/4 -- First 100 guests in the store each day of the weekend will receive a $10 savings card.

8/23 - 8/25 -- Mystery discount. Guests have the chance to receive a coupon for 15, 20 or 25% off a single item, or 15% off their entire purchase

It's time to get your kids (and yourself) pumped up and ready to head back to school! Check out Gordmans for great choices and amazing deals and make Back to School shopping a fun experience for everyone!

The World's Easiest Cookie Recipe

Monday, July 29, 2013

I felt inclined to start a baking marathon yesterday.  I made a birthday cake, homemade meatloaf and zucchini bread.  I then realized I had all the fixings for No Bake cookies and thought I'd whip a batch of those up too!  No Bakes make the perfect cookies when you are short on time - especially for you super busy moms with busy little ones!

Here's what you'll need:

-1 stick of butter
- 2 c of sugar
-5 tablespoons of cocoa powder
-1 teaspoon or vanilla
-1/2 cup of milk
-3 1/2 cups of oats
-1/3 c of peanut butter

Here's what you'll do:
1.  Combine butter, sugar, vanilla, cocoa and milk into a saucepan.  Heat ingredients until they boil.  Then, boil for 1 minute.

2.  Turn off the heat and add peanut butter and oats.  Mix up until oats are covered and peanut butter is melted.

3.  Scoop cookies out onto wax paper and let cool to set.

4.  Once cooled you are ready to eat!

I told you it was super easy!

One batch can make a dozen big cookies or two dozen small cookies.  Cookies usually set in about two hours.  These are my go-to treats when I'm short on time and/or too tired to whip up something spectacular.  They are always a hit and usually are gone in our house within in days.

Happy Cooking! :)

Kroger's Friday Freebie for 7/26

Friday, July 26, 2013

Head on over to Kroger's website to sign in and snag today's digital coupon freebie - Colgate toothpaste!
We all need toothpaste, right?  So grab some more of this stuff for free!

I love when it's free!

Our Mini Family Vacay

Considering we traveled to Florida for Spring Break, we wanted to do something smaller this summer.  So the four of us packed up and headed to Cincinnati!  The drive is fairly short from Indianapollis (a little over two hours) and very doable with a toddler.  We had originally planned to hit the Cincinnati  Zoo first but they were calling for rain - and boy did it rain my friends.  We headed to Newport Aquarium first.  I love this place.  We took Cohen here last year and he loved it so I knew it would be a hit again.  The only downfall to this aquarium is the fact that it is kinda pricey and you really can get through it in less than two hours.  But this year we got an up close look at the sharks getting fed and Cohen was mesmerized for a good ten minutes.  That my friends is a miracle if you can keep my child's attention span for that long.  We touched a starfish, a baby sting ray and saw tons and tons of underwater life.  It was a fun experience but like I said a quick one for the price.

He kept saying "Ooo stinky mama!" as we passed by the penguins.  I'll be honest, they were quite stinky...

We then had a few hours to kill before we could check into our hotel  So of course we stopped for a snack.  My child chooses candy.  Smart one he is.

We scoped out our "want list" at IKEA and then headed back to our hotel as the weather decided it was time to start raining.  Not just any rain but torrential downpour on the highway with several people who find it appropriate to keep the speed limit 70.  Umm hello.  When I can't see the road I'm not driving that fast...just saying.  After hitting 5 o'clock traffic we finally made it to our hotel and checked in.  At this point we discovered that my step daughter had eaten her ENTIRE half pound bag of candy.  Okay seriously people - this kid just ate a half pound of taffy, gummy fish and chocolate.  Needless to say she didn't feel well and needless to say we didn't feel too sorry for her.
Why?
BECAUSE SHE ATE A HALF POUND OF CANDY!!
Let's just say it was a long evening in the hotel room...

The next day the sun was shining and we headed to the Cincinnati Zoo.  Indy peeps this zoo trumps our zoo by like 294839284092348 points.  It was really a great zoo.  We stayed for over three hours and could have easily stayed another hour.  There was so much to see and each exhibit was transformed to look like the animals' original habitat.  Amazeballs.  My child had a blast.
But the one animal he keeps talking about?
No, not the cheetahs we actually saw chasing toys and balls.  Not the giraffe we saw super close eating from the crate.  Not even the manatees swimming away under the water.
The owl. The big ol' barn owl sitting in a tree.
Seriously he is obsessed with owls.  He keeps hearing pigeons and thinking it is an owl too.  Whatever floats his boat I guess..

We somehow managed to keep Cohen awake to make our annual official IKEA run of the year.  This was Coco's second trip to the store (well third if you count our quick one the day before).  Luckily it was Kids Eat Free day so we grabbed our free kids meals before headed on our shopping trip.
Okay seriously even though this year's pic isn't a close up look at much he's changed in a year.

Since we had Sophie this time  I couldn't shop as much as I wanted because we didn't have room in the car.  So I guess we'll just have to make another trip soon.  Darn.
*Sidenote - I may or may not have been streaming live the reveal of the Royal Baby as I shopped...
My husband may or may not have been annoyed with me...

But we bought some great things and headed back home again to Indiana.
It was a great ride home until we hit torrential rains again. Of course. Our luck.

This is called a sugar crash after eating a half pound of candy the day before.

It was a really great time with the family.  I have to say it is crazy to think that next year we'll have one more body to add to the picture which probably means we won't take a mini vacay like this...unless I can entice my parents in on joining us.  :)
I'm glad we did it and that we made it home all in one piece!

Happy Travels! :)

We are back from our little mini family vacay .  I'll post about it later but we had a really fun time!
By the way I totally scored big last week at Target!  I'm a complete mess though because since Target has updated their coupon printer it won't recognize my printer.  My husband and I have tried EVERYTHING and it won't work.  I'm over my coupon depressing but I'm still super bummed.  I even contacted Target and they really didn't have anything to help me out.  So I guess I'll just depend on my mobile coupons and my Cartwheel app...

In the meantime, I'll still post some deals for those who are fortunate enough to print off Target coupons (if you have any tips on getting it to recognize my printer let me know -- I never had an issue before that's why I'm flipping out!)

Head over soon and check out your summer clearance -- last week  when I went it was up to 50% and I scored Cohen two precious little chairs for $5 each!  I'm pretty sure that the clearance may have been bumped up to at least 70% so hopefully you can still score a few things unless we have some shelf clearers....

Let me know if you find any great summer clearance deals!

When to Eat Organic?

Sunday, July 21, 2013

I'm not a health nut by all means nor am I an expert on this topic.  However a news article recently came out about the high amounts of pesticide residue that is found in strawberries and many of the fruits and vegetables my family eats and it really kind of terrified me.  As many of you thknow, Cohen is an extremely picky eater and there are only a few foods that I can get him to eat.  So if he is going to eat these foods quite frequently I decided I needed to make sure they were the highest quality that I could offer him.  Not only that but the fact that I'm pregnant I wanted to make sure that the food that I'm ingesting is going to be safe for her too.

So I started a little research...

Organic.com has a list on their website of the "Dirty Dozen" which are the fruits and vegetables that you should buy organic because the regular ones contain the highest pesticide residues.

Here's the list that they suggest:

I'll be honest with you - I'm not an organic shopper.  I do buy some things organic but you aren't going to go into my pantry and find 100% organic products.  (Let's be serious, the "organic" Cheetos totally don't cut it.)  But when it comes to produce, these are the products that I make sure to buy organic.  I also try to get organic blueberries and pears too.  In my area, there is a company that offers delivery of organic produce to your front door either weekly or bi-weekly.  I pay $35 for a small produce bin and get it delivered to my doorstep every other Wednesday.  It lasts us two weeks and I can choose and customize my produce based on my needs.  Plus it is all certified organic produce.
(If you want more info email and I can give you the deets!)

I'm not telling you to go clean out your fridge and throw away any produce that you have that is listed that isn't organic.  But as a mom I'm sure you can relate with me about the everyday worries you have already for your children and wanting what is best for them.  Hopefully my little research project can help you out on your next grocery trip - or least keep these in mind the next time you head to buy produce!

Happy Family! :)

Oh summer heat you have arrived and personally I AM SO EXCITED!!!  Even thought I start school in 3 weeks, I am still super pumped because I LIVE for this weather!!  I'm totally content spending hours at our pool or going to the Splash Pad or even sitting in the sun.  People call me crazy but seriously who doesn't love a bit of good sunshine??

In other news, I am completely heartbroken over Cory Monteith.  I'm a huge Gleek and my husband made sure to wake me up on my day to sleep in to share the news with me.  I seriously feel like I lost a friend.  I know that sounds crazy but I cry every time I read stories about it because he seems like such a down to Earth guy.   I mean had this been Lindsay Lohan, we would have all said oh duh we knew that was coming.  But Cory -- complete shock.  Prayers for his friends and family.

Kroger Match Ups for the Week of 7/11

Thursday, July 11, 2013

Today the sun decided to come out and play!  We hit the pool for about two hours -- swam, splashed and touched  a dead mouse.

Yes, Cohen found a dead mouse in the filter and decided to share it with the baby pool.  Well, at least I'm pretty sure that's what happened because one second I look at him playing in the filter and the next second he's all excited and telling me to look at something sinking to the bottom of the pool.
A dead mouse in deed.  Boys...

Baby #2 Update - 20 Weeks

Cue the Bon Jovi song..."Oooooh we're halfway there!"

Yes my friends.  We have made it to the midway point of this pregnancy.
So...let's do a quick recap.

Trimester 1
Sick.As.A.Dog.  Okay, not as sick as I could have been but I was pretty darn sick.  Thank you Lord for Zofran which helped me at least get through some of the roughest points of my day.  Being a teacher and enduring morning all day sickness do not coincide with one another at all.  It was all I could do not lay on the couch and take a nap after school.  Oh wait, I have a two year old now too.  Seriously though, with Cohen I NEVER felt this way.  I would wake up feeling a little nauseous, eat a few crackers and then be good for the day.  This baby had their own agenda.  Once that twelve week mark hit I started to finally feel better.  At about fourteen weeks the sickness subsided completely.

Well..here I am at 20 weeks and 2 days:

*Picture Note:  This was taken at 10 PM and apparently Brady really didn't want his picture taken at the moment.*

I know I feel like I look huge.  But Doc says I'm measuring right on track and I've gained as much weight at this point as I did with Cohen which makes me feel better.
Better yet - do you want to know the gender?

IT'S A GIRL!
I am beyond thrilled!  What is more exciting is the fact that she is healthy and Doc said she looked great -- which was what I asked to hear first before we found out the gender.  Cohen said he wanted a baby sissy, but he has no idea how his life will change come four more months...

How are things going now you ask?
Due date:   November 25th -- praying I go early or on the due date so my mom can come cook me Thanksgiving dinner at our house.  I asked my favorite doctor if they serve Thanksgiving dinner in the hospital and his response was -"Sure do."  Then I asked if it was as good as a home cooked meal and he said "Sure is not."  Love his honesty.

Gender: Team Pink my friends!

How do I feel?  Currently I feel really good except for restless legs at night and the random inability to breathe, especially after dinner.  My only major complaint now are the headaches, which have started to become less and less frequent, like my doctor said would happen.

Cravings/Aversions?  None really -- but I could really put down a bag of Cheetos in a sitting...  Oh and those commercials for Beeritas needs to quit running because a virgin margarita is totally not the same as the real deal.

How do my clothes fit?  I'm in a mix of maternity and regular clothes.  I can wear a few maternity pants but they are still a little big, but big is better in my opinion.  I love dresses too so I'm hoping it stays warm for awhile.  But in all honesty if I could wear sweats all day every day I totally would.  Unfortunately that wouldn't cut it at my job come August.

Sleep:  I'm getting a good chunk of sleep at night but come school I know I'll really have to work at getting to bed at a reasonable time. Wah wah.

Movement:  She's quite active at night.  I feel her little feeties kick like crazy.

My Exercise Routine:  I am still able to workout at least four times a week.  I'll go on a 2 mile run, do TurboFire or hit a Pure Barre class.  I'm getting pretty good about learning how to modify my workouts based on how I'm feeling.  My run is definitely a lot slower than before and I may take a 3 minute walking break, but I'm not going to overdo it.  Let's remember this will probably change in three weeks when school starts again. I'm not dreading going back or anything...

I'm in denial about how I'll have two little ones at Christmastime this year.  Cohen has become pretty mommy dependent over this break (which drives my husband crazy) so I'm trying to enjoy our last summer together just the two of us.  But to be honest he's also been pretty good at pushing my buttons lately so I'm hoping he gets this alllll out before Lil Sissy comes.
Wishful thinking, right?

More updates to come soon! :)

Target Match Ups for the Week of 7/7

We did a mini makeover project of our half bath.  So now I'm in search of decorations for the bath which I find super fun because I never got to do this at the old house!  I'm hitting up Target's clearance tonight (their summer Threshold line is marked down!) in hopes of finding those finishing touches -- and then I'll share the big reveal of the fun bathroom!
