Indy Mini Marathon Training - Week #6

Friday, March 21, 2014

I'm officially half way done with my training for the Mini!  I'm going to be honest, this week was kind of a burn out of a week.  The weather was crappy and I'm over running on a treadmill.  I only got in four runs for a total of about 17 miles.  However, today I got to run outside in the beautiful weather and I covered 9 miles! HOLLA!  Thanks to the Britney Spear Spotify station and the giant squirrels that I swear were going to eat my shoes, my adrenaline kept up the majority of my run.  Running alone versus with a jogging stroller is 238498234903 times easier.  I'm debating on looking for a new lighter weight stroller.  Any suggestions moms?

Here's my opinions on this week:

How do I feel you ask?
This week, like I mentioned earlier, I really started feeling burnt out.  I knew Friday was my big run so I was determined to do well on it and I was happy that I ran all of it but .25 miles.  Next week I'm hoping to get out and do a few more trail runs but by the looks of the weather, it may not happen.  Lola is still struggling with naps so I'm lucky to get a few miles at a time on the treadmill.

My Goals for this Race:
After today's run I'm more confident that I'll be able to run all 13.1 miles.  I need to remember to eat a better breakfast and hydrate more on my long run days.  I would've been able to run all 9 today but I started to get lightheaded, so next week for the 10 miles that's in my plan I will definitely drink more water and eat a little bit better of a breakfast.
(I had a muffin.  From Starbucks.  And it was the bomb.)

What I Want to Do This Week:
I definitely need to get in more cross training this week.  I'm doing all this great cardio with my running but my muscle toning isn't as great as it should be -- especially after having two babies.  My meal planning this week is also going to be a bit healthier and I have a few yummy crockpot recipes planned.  (I'm going to share an amazeballs Chicken Chili one that I made that is heaven!)

Even though I didn't get the full 27 miles in this week, I still feel great, especially after my run today.  Now that Lola is sleeping better at night, I'm going to think about waking up in the morning before she wakes up and seeing if I can bust a few miles out.  Right now it looks like I may be able to get one or two runs outside this week so keeping my fingers crossed that the snow that is supposed to happen on Tuesday decides to stay away!

To another week my friends!

  1. Congratulations on your training! A muffin treat every once in a while is okay, momma, you are heavy duty training!

  2. you are doing great!! It's so encouraging to hear your training stories!

  3. Yay for being half way! I finally made it to the gym this week, only 2 times but those two times felt amazing!

  4. Congratulations on being halfway through your training, that is awesome! Definitely do the cross - if you can get to a stationary bike, I've heard that's the best cross training for runners. Pilates is great too.

  5. I have the hardest time remembering to stay hydrated when I run as well. I get so focused on just moving and keeping my pace and then end up with cramps.

  6. Congratulations on your 9 mile run!

  7. I love keeping up with your training - you are doing amazing!

  8. You've got this, I'm sure of it. You're really coming along and I know you'll be ready.
