Personalizing Our Date Night

It is no secret I'm a fan of summer.  My life slows down times a million and I feel like I can finally enjoy the most important job in my life - being a mom.  Don't get me wrong, I totally enjoy it during the school year but summer break allows me to slow my roll and enjoy the stay-at-home-mom lifestyle.  I love being able to plan play dates, adventures to the pool and picnics at the park.  But I think my overall mood takes a chill pill and I can stop and smell the flowers because let's be honest, these days go by way TOO fast!

One of my promises this year was to spend more time with my husband.  We both have busy jobs and by the time both kids are in bed, we too are curled up and catching up on our DVR. So I decided that I would take advantage of my summer energy and plan a fun date night out, just the two of us.  We have a local park that is fairly close to our house that hosts some super fun bands during the summer.  I thought it would be the perfect chance to be able to stay close while we try out a new babysitter but enjoy some adult time just the two of us.  I headed to Walmart to stock up on some goodies to take with us.  A park with music totally calls for a date night picnic, right?  One of the first things to catch my eye was the personalized Coca-Cola bottles in the coolers at the front of the store.  This year's Coke campaign is bigger than ever with 1000 names printed on bottles available at Walmart.  I would be lying if I said I didn't have a blast reading all the different names and personalized sayings on the bottles - there were so many to choose!  Walmart also has the widest and most organized selection of these 20 oz Coca-Cola personalized bottles!  I was also able to find smaller personalized Coke bottles with cute love sayings on them to go along with the date night picnic.  Then, right before I was leaving I found another super cute display of personalized REESE'S peanut butter cups that are exclusive just for Walmart.  I grabbed a few in some cute phrases to add to the picnic grub.  I left the store feeling awfully excited to put together our picnic date!

(This photo was taken in our prime...obviously.)

I spent all afternoon assembling this adorable picnic ensemble.  I was sure to grab food that was easy to pack but convenient for the park.  I'm a huge fan of Diet Coke and Coke Zero while Kurtis prefers the good ol' Coca-Cola.  Katie is my nickname that I honestly only let him call me (don't even think about it peeps) so I thought it would be cute to throw it in there.   It was even more fun to know that I was secretly hiding the cute personalized phrases within our picnic dinner.  The smaller 16 oz bottles with Amor and Kiss were sweet little additions to the picnic.  He's definitely my main squeeze so I had to let him know he's "my fave" with the REESE'S cups.  There's something about date night that requires one to be cheesy, agree?

Unfortunately this story has a sad ending because the concert got rained out.  (This seems to be a continuous story this summer.)  But the happy ending is that is was rescheduled for tonight and our sitter was available to try sitting for us again.  I wish I could say I remembered the last time my husband and I had a date night but I seriously can't recall a recent time.  Blame it on pregnancy brain maybe but either way I am super excited for our date out tonight!  Good company along with the summer smells, live music and tasty treats is good for the soul.  Lord knows this won't be happening as often when Baby Girl arrives in October.

  1. I love this idea! We have a local park that holds concerts as well - sometimes it's just nice to get out for a night, and my husband would love if I surprised him with a personalized Coke Zero and REESE'S! #client
